In some ways it’s like synergy, where the output is potentially greater than the sum of the parts .
The potential for us to see and to experience creativity is inherently present in people and things; but it’s seldom apparent until and unless we are willing to acknowledge, to submit, and to be part of that greater operating force at work in our lives.
The reality is that unless we open up and allow ourselves to be transformed in order to see and to understand in ways that we might never have imagined previously we may never truly experience creativity for all its creative worth.
The process of seeking truth, finding creativity may be understood via the following illustration.
ONCE UPON A TIME an officer of a king of a distant land was sent out on a very important mission: to seek a suitable bride for his master, the king. It was the custom in those days that only the most faithful servant be selected for this sort of mission.
As the officer prepared to set out on the journey to seek the right to-be bride, the officer first had to have in his own mind a reasonably clear picture of the kind of person he was looking for, otherwise how would he know or recognize the right person if and when he came across the to-be bride?
Only a true servant would know the master’s heart. Only a righteous servant would be able to communicate the king’s invitation in a way that draws attention to the king’s wishes, drawing attention to the king’s glory rather than the officer’s own tastes and preferences.
Further, in order for a truth encounter to take place, the officer had to know his master, the master’s likes and dislikes. The officer would have to be truly tuned in to the specific nuances in tastes and preferences of his master, the king. The officer would then be justified in making the connection between his master and the prospective bride in his own mind before communicating such intention to his master, the king.
Likewise,
When it comes to mediating creativity through the things we create, our primary role as artists is to help establish a meaningful connection between the King’s desires, in our case, the Creator’s, prospects and ultimate purposes and the people who are waiting, at least in theory, to receive the invitation from the King. Unless and until we align ourselves with the Creator’s heart and mind and understand our role as agents of truth (as opposed to giving the impression that we ourselves are the be-all and end-all of truth) we will never really find creativity.
Consider,
The dictum, seek and you shall find, can be true only when that which we seek with all our hearts and minds accords seamlessly with that which we ultimately find. When we seek the truth with all our heart and mind and body, we put ourselves on the path to finding creativity.
The question therefore is not merely what do you seek, but how do you seek in order to find creativity?
