What is our (creator’s) go-to source of power? And how do we define or distinguish inspiration as something separate from and other than the use and/or abuse of power?
The inspirational power of our creativity may be traced not merely to and through the things we create but also through how we respond to people and scenarios. Does what we say (or think) build up and encourage the other or tear down and destroy? With the tongue and the mind (thoughts) we can either build up or tear down, not merely others but also ourselves in the process.
Let’s think about it, the basic principles of design thinking—beginning with empathy for others—and the ethos of designing with the needs of others in mind, has at its essence, the well-being of others. In creating for the well-being of others, we as creators are also re-creating ourselves through our thoughts and actions. However, we often forget to rigorously evaluate that part of the design process—what we say and how we think (perhaps more so the latter) about others or ourselves.
It’s important to be able to distinguish between what is truly the power of inspiration versus the inspiration of power at work in and through us as creators and sustained in the process and products of our creativity.
Consider,
Let’s set apart a few moments to recenter on the Creator, who makes all things beautiful in its time. Let’s ask for help to see ourselves and one other through the eyes of forgiveness and compassion. Good designs will follow.
Better human, better design, better world.
