Who wouldn’t want the waters to be parted and a way made through seemingly insurmountable obstacles?
In reality, our birth into this world signifies that we are each created with the capacity to make it out alive, quite literally.
When we face insurmountable situations in our lives, we often become paralyzed with fear. However, we should be still and know that the same hand that delivered us into this world will sustain us and bring us out safely on the other side.
The key is to be still and know. We are all tempted to take things into our own hands, assuming that we know what the outcome of a situation should be. However, what if there is more to the picture than what we can see, which is often the case? We take action only to later realize that we could have handled things differently for the better.
The art of being still is where creatives and artists are called to take a stand – to be still ourselves and to help others find stillness when they engage with our creativity. This stillness is sustained by the knowledge, not just information, of the Creator.
To be still and acknowledge that You are the Creator and that I am created for and by Your purpose in this world is a great place to be.
What about those who argue that being still is not enough and that action is necessary to overcome obstacles?
Being still and taking action need not be mutually exclusive. The decision to be still is a choice that can be made and acted upon. A prime example of constant motion is the ocean, which moves in accord with and in response to other factors in the ecosystem of creation, such as gravity, topography, and other geophysical constants. When we are still, we find and establish our rhythm in the midst of it all.
This morning, I dropped off my children at school and suggested we play some music. My daughter found Mozart’s Horn Concerto on my phone, which was a piece I grew up listening to on a regular basis. I shared with them how my father was a Western classical music aficionado and we had a record player that stacked 5 or 10 records and dropped the record on to the turntable in accord with the arm of the needle. Without knowing it, I was entering into that stillness and inviting my children into that place. It was a good memory and a story that they had never heard before, and I think they enjoyed hearing it from me.
The important thing here is not to find a story to tell or something to do, but rather to be still and know that our lives are stories that are worth sharing. We are formed by and as part of the larger beautiful story of Creation. In fact, we are each walking testaments to the Creator’s story of bringing about something beautiful in this world. We have only to be still and know this truth.

Being still and patient is a hard virtue to be because of our natural response to fight or flight but you are so right! I’m most creative by just being still and listen and hope the best is around the corner just waiting for me
