Did you catch the U.S. Open women’s finals? The match between Coco Gauff and Sabalenka was intense! During the commentary, Chrissie Evert revealed that Coco’s winning strategy was to focus on the present moment and work towards solving it. That’s some serious problem-solving skills right there!
Speaking of problem-solving, have you heard the story of David and Goliath? It’s a classic tale from the Bible about a young Israelite shepherd boy who defeats a giant-like Philistine warrior, Goliath. Talk about bravery and courage! Despite being told to go home by his older brother, David was determined to fight Goliath.
During the battle, David faced the Philistine army, who challenged the Israelites to put forth their strongest warrior to fight against Goliath. David, who was no match for Goliath, shouted across the battle line, “You are coming to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I am coming to you in the name of Yahweh of Hosts, the God of the battle lines of Israel whom you have defied!”
With just a slingshot, David defeated Goliath. But what’s even more inspiring is David’s faith in the invisible God. His seemingly “stupid” faith gave him the courage to fight battles and win significant wars. He trusted the Creator to do what only the Creator could do.
We all face Goliaths in our lives, but we can trust in the Creator’s strength to overcome them. So, let’s take a cue from Coco Gauff and King David and focus on the present moment with problem-solving skills and presence. And let’s remember that our greatest strength lies not in ourselves, but in our faith in the Creator.
