The logic of creativity: “inescapable mutuality” or inescapable greed?

Not so easy, after all…the question includes asking, how and who ultimately benefits?

Creativity for all. This is freedom.

Ultimately, it’s not merely about the human capacity to create, but first to realize that our abilities notwithstanding, all people are created in creative excellence and for creative excellence irrespective of caste, color, creed, race, class, culture, nation, or people-group of any kind.

All are equally created. All are equally called. Our gifts may vary according to our physical or intellectual diversities and cultural emphases. But creativity as an inherent birthright is for all people everywhere.

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. — Martin Luther King Jr.

The context for creative freedom is indeed “an inescapable network of mutuality.” But unless such mutuality is experienced in terms of the desire to bless others, to count others as indeed better and more deserving than ourselves, we will remain captive in a network of individualism rather than a network of mutuality.

Creative freedom is moving beyond fighting for my rights, to preferring justice for another at the cost of myself. This is the kind of inescapable mutuality that is worth living for, and indeed requires dying unto our inescapable greed.

It’s not merely about the capacity to create; it’s the freedom to be creative in accordance with our ultimate creative potential—to be blessed and to be a blessing; to be free in order to be and to do in accordance with our mutually inescapable Creator-inspired creativity.

Consider,

What might it look like to bless someone else who may not in my logic deserve to be blessed? What’s it going to take on my part to be a blessing to such a person or community today, at work or at home?
