Self-help may not be the desired strategy especially when we are stuck in a situation that requires outside help—too big and too vast for us to handle on our own. What we need in such scenario is to be brought out of our distress. Most of us would gladly settle for a removal of the symptoms—e.g., no money to more money, diseased to no disease, lonely to not lonely. But creativity is never about offering a band-aid solution.
The force of creativity can sometimes uproot us from our versions of a given problem to a place that makes us wonder whether or not we are indeed in a better or worse situation than before! Disruption and disillusionment may actually be part and parcel of the solution, and not so much the problem. Creativity addresses root issues—it changes how we think and feel about a given situation and not merely what we do about something. Again, this is not about coming up with solutions that we can address on our own strength and wisdom—we already did that. Rather, this is about bringing about solutions that are bigger than what we humans can handle on our own merit or strength. After all, this is about Creative solutions to human problems and not simple innovation.
Consider,
In what way might our current issues or problems be an invitation to surrender—give in to being uprooted from our current dependencies and preferred approaches to something more beautiful and beyond what we can do on our own steam?
