Sometimes we work on our creations away from the eyes of public scrutiny and then unveil it in a proud moment hoping that this would be well-received among the people. Many contemporary art installations follow this pattern. But what happens when the artifact takes on a life of its own? What if, the public unveiling reveals that it is not anything like what you had quite imagined in the first place? It seems premature. Perhaps true, but is this really the full picture?
Compared to the above image, I look at my daughter’s artistic sketch of Christ on the Cross when she was 5 years old and I can’t help but think…now, here is creativity done right! I’ll admit, I’m biased. As adults, however, sometimes its hard to easily see beyond the blood and gore, even that of our own infirmities and fallenness. I wonder if this is part of what is meant by the saying, “unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”
