New Year, New Beginnings? How to move from bitter to better

Considering all the possibilities that lie ahead, how might we be sure that we choose the right paths for success? Where do we start when it comes to activating our creativity for the common good?

If we were to actually do something to make a creative difference in the world where might we begin? A strategic response, if there is one, may include a move from being on the defense to being on the offense for the common good. But how do we do that? Here are three ways:

Wash our hands in the healing waters of innocence.

First, it could mean that we give up blaming others or ourselves for past mistakes. This does not mean giving up on justice, but that we cleanse or rid ourselves of the desire to continually blame others or even ourselves for the dire situation in which we may find ourselves.

Come to the altar of Creator love.

Second, we recognize that for real and deep change to happen we cannot do it on our own. Along with identifying another person or a close-knit community of accountability, we must come to a place where we learn and develop habits of reconciliation and restoration between ourselves and the Creator and with others and the world.

Learn to speak the language of thanksgiving.

Third, in a culture that predicates a happy life based on what you get out of it, we tend to forget to be thankful for the bare necessities. We feel entitled to more and better, but lack a personal experience of telling others of how thankful we are for the very gift of life. We want more out of life but fail to give thanks and be thankful for what we already have and the innate potential in the Creator to be a blessing to others.

Consider,

It begins with being. Creative being begins with the Creator. Resting and being thankful in the Creator’s love. Start here, the rest will follow.
