How human creativity reveals a larger reality

Architecting for unbuilt space…how might what we create give shape to and invite others to share in a greater reality beyond what we create? The built structures here seem to invite us to contemplate the ways in which we complement one another in crafting and cultivating places that bridge Earth and Heaven; a real space for the habitation of people, or perhaps a re-habitation–learning new ways of being, knowing, and doing–of people in the light of a greater uncreated reality.

Michaelangelo’s “The Creation of Adam” evidences the “sublimity” of God and the “potential nobility of man” indeed unrivaled and unprecedented in how it envisions the story of the creation of the first Adam and as well how it anticipates the creation of the New Adam in Jesus Christ. The artwork itself extended the space, a building made by human hands, into a space that cannot be made by human hands. In comparison, the photo of the architectural space above captures the juxtaposition of a touchpoint of sorts between human and divine ways of spatialization–creating new spaces for the re-habitation of humanity and the re-turning of divinity as an open invitation to contemplate the wonder and awesomeness of what it means to be human. Perhaps, even more specifically, taking a leaf from Michaelangelo’s work, what it means to be a people created in the image and the imagination of the Creator by whom uncommon creativity inspires our common human diversity for radical community with others.

In the end, therefore, along with asking how what we create might reveal what can’t be created by human hands or imagination alone we might also consider, how what we can’t create might serve to inspire what we can create?
