Wicked? Who, me?

Wicked?

But then we don’t always see taking advantage of others as arrogant,

Or cursing God as greedy.

We justify degrees of crime within political and moral frameworks,

Prey on the helpless.

We perfect the art of ambush and stealth,

Murder the innocent.

Prey on the helpless.

Who, me?

Creativity’s last call?

A Wednesday Wonder

How’d we get here? It’s indeed a matter of wonder that humankind gets to measure so-called “progress” in a world that it did not make! This age of discovery has roots in an era of the pride of prosperity the fruit of which is a mind that is indeed “without fear”—even the fear of God.

Here freedom is falsified through self-talk that reinforces sine-fidence rather than con-fidence.  Sine-fidence* raises a banner proclaiming “I shall not be moved” or “I shall not meet adversity.” We are drawn to movements and leaders that promise safety and guarantee security, rather than opt to be moved by love and overcome adversity through  such higher love. Success is redefined in terms of finite possibility and limited liability.

* Sine-fidence being for our purpose here, the opposite of confidence, i.e., without fide [faith] rather than, with fide.

Where has our creativity gotten us? Measured primarily in terms of market-driven innovation, human progress, development, and industrial revolutions to feed and satiate our collective human desire to consume while exploiting the environment and the weaker and marginalized sections of society….

Surely, we have strived and have been permitted to prevail: the destruction of our cities, a product of an immature imagination, wild, free, unbound, even beautiful, but sick to the core. What has become of our common human creativity? Is there an end to all of this, in a way that we desire but cannot achieve on our terms alone?
