As we think about how to grow and scale our creativity,
It’s helpful to distinguish between purpose-driven and purpose-given. To be purpose-driven is to be in a place that assumes you know you know what on earth you are here for? Further, purpose-driven assumes that you are motivated and inspired to some degree by the very thing that drives your purpose in life.
Purpose-given however is a little harder. The reason is because you can’t really achieve it. Rather, to be purpose-given is to give the whole idea of purpose itself and its ultimate outcome to the Purpose Giver. It’s about surrender.
Think of it in this way: the more you are able to surrender, the more freedom and creativity you have to enjoy your life’s purpose. The less you are able to surrender, the less freedom and creativity you have to enjoy life’s purpose; there’s not only less to give if you hold on to it, but there’s also the pain and stress that comes with trying to steward your precious life. And who is fit for such a task?
Consider,
When struggling with your way over that of others, let’s remember that when we surrender our life purpose to our Creator, giving in doesn’t necessarily mean giving up. Rather, it signals humbleness and openness to learn and to grow; and suddenly each closed door or blocked road becomes an opportunity for growth and scaling our ultimate creative potential.
So, what shall we surrender? The song writer writes, and let this be our prayer: “Take my life and let it be, consecrated Lord to thee.” Not only my life, but my hands, my days, each moment, my feet, my voice, my treasures, my will, and ultimately, my love.

- Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
*Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise.- Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.- Take my voice and let me sing,
Always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.- Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.- Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne.- Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.
