Recently someone asked me, “what does creativity mean for a young person?” I admit I was a little stumped at first resorting to explain creativity as a way for all humans to share in the nature, purpose, and character of the creator—too deeply philosophical!
But as I continue to think about it, and inasmuch as creativity and innovation are helpful for humanity, we need to bear in mind however that human inspiration comes with an expiration date.
Therefore, human creativity’s greatest purpose perhaps is to point to something beyond itself that by nature is inexhaustible. Now, that’s something worth tapping into for everyday strength, wisdom, courage, and ideas for innovation.
Consider,
Pop culture in general tends to glorify youth, perhaps more than it should be–limitless energy, boundless potential, the sky’s the limit kind of thing. Wisdom looks back and knows better.
Next time you start running out of steam or creative ideas or simply become frustrated with no end in sight, call upon your greatest asset–not a mindfulness or health and wellness app! These may have a temporary role. But our greatest asset that many may not be mindful of is the infinite creative potential of the creator of all, including the human mind.
