Mediating truth in the metaverse

Both diet and exercise are important. Similarly, purpose is clarified when we not only earnestly accomplish the work entrusted to us but also avoid profanity, the ways of the violent, and hold fast to wisdom lest we slip and risk losing everything we’ve worked so hard to gain.

Governance and value creation, both are significant drivers for the discussion on creating an ethical and safe metaverse. Generating assets and owning property, both are key aspects that are shaping the conversation on the kind of place the metaverse should be.

In all this it is important that we remember that the metaverse does not and may not ultimately govern and define how we work and live. But rather as we improve how we work and live in the real world we can be assured that work and life in the metaverse will be affected.

Ultimately, it is human creativity that will define and qualify the boundaries and substance of whatever it is that characterizes and defines the metaverse. And because creativity is a defining quality and characteristic of humanity, and not a value-free abstraction, those who seek to build a generative metaverse therefore must among other things also ask:

But who will write the songs that people will sing in the metaverse? Who will craft the words we dream to speak? How will music, art, and poetry (among other creative expressions) shape the human collective conscious to and from and in the metaverse? And perhaps, more significantly, how will truth and grace be mediated in the metaverse?

To do in the here and now,

What do you need to stop doing—lying, cheating, slander, abuse, pride, envy—and start doing—putting the needs of others first before my own, choosing to love rather than hate, and building lasting, likely and unlikely, friendships and economically fruitful partnerships?
